Thanks to the emotional support peacock, squirrel, and snake, traveling by air with your emotional support animal has become more time-consuming and costlier. Now, all US airlines require mental health care providers to certify the passenger is currently undergoing professional care for ongoing treatment regarding a mental health-related disability. To ethically comply with airline regulations, the client/passenger must have engaged in a therapeutic session with an ESAD clinician within the last 30 days to be considered under their “standard of care.”

Airlines typically charge $150 each way for your pet. Additionally, airlines are regularly updating the travel requirements, so please check with your airline.

Doing business the ESAD way

Since 2015, thanks to our rigid protocols and adherence to the strictest ethics in the business, we’ve never had a single travel letter rejected.

ESA travel letter, signed airline form, and talk therapy (US)

This package includes the needs assessment for an emotional support animal letter and a therapeutic care session (talk therapy) with a licensed mental health care provider. The assessment and session will typically last 40-50 minutes, and can be one in one appointment.

Those that qualify will receive two documents (in electronic and printed form).

  • ESA travel letter
  • When applicable, signed airline form indicating passenger/client is under the clinician’s care

Documentation verification

Most airlines are now following American Airlines‘ ESA documentation validation protocol, which includes “contacting [the] mental health professional.” Given our total compliance with federal HIPAA data privacy guidelines, unless a passenger/client purchases the additional airline verification service (which puts into place a signed HIPAA-waiver, allowing the sharing of protected health information), our clinicians cannot legally answer any airline queries.

Travel (US)

Traveling with your emotional support animal without any additional fee or costs is allowed by airline carriers if you have an ESA letter.

ESA Travel Restrictions

In 2018, airlines have substantially toughened their travel policies and documentation requirements.

Airlines now routinely call therapists to verify the treatment and diagnosis letter.  Additional fees are incurred if we provide this service. Without the purchase of this service, our therapists cannot verify the letter.

Pricing for emotional support animal letters include an online exam, clinical consultation, and letter of recommendation.

Airline Enhanced Travel Requirements

Most major US airlines now require mental health care providers to certify the passenger is currently undergoing professional care for ongoing treatment regarding a mental health-related disability. To ethically comply with airline regulations, the client/passenger must have engaged in a therapeutic session with an ESAD clinician within the last 30 days to be considered under their "standard of care."

Should the airline call (requires a signed protected health information release), our therapists can confirm the traveling passenger is under their care and treatment.
